Sweet nose. That prominent leathery, wheaty garrison profile is here, but the sherry is at the forefront. Blueberry cobbler, mint, nutmeg, fresh-baked rolls.
The oloroso comes through strong here, with notes of buttered brioche, chestnut, raisins and blueberry. It pairs with classic garrison tobacco and leather and quite a bit of tannin.
The finish opens with cinnamon, tobacco and raisin, fading into classic garrison leather.
This is a very good bourbon from Garrison. It’s quite oaky and tannic, and the Oloroso complements the distillate quite well. I slightly prefer the PX of these two Ranch Reserve releases, but they’re both excellent.
