Launched in 2021, Espero is among of a small handful of products produced by Tanteo. Purportedly the only distillery in Jalisco owned and operated by a cooperative of agave farmers, Tanteo is best known for its range of flavored tequilas that come in habanero, chipotle and jalapeño varieties. Espero, meanwhile, is a thoroughly unflavored 100% agave spirit made using highlands agaves and traditional brick ovens. Though price never factors into our reviews, it's worth noting that 1-liter bottles of this tequila go for around $25 most places spirits are sold.

Dominated by a fall vegetable vibe of asparagus and celery. It's an unexpected kind of greenery you don't usually catch in tequila, backed up with hints of grass, grapefruit pith and black tea. Interesting start.
Citrus, wet earth and a hint of barnyard funk come to the forefront. Lemon, chamomile, pine needles, raw agave, damiana and pepper spiciness. Nice flavors to chew on, with an indescribable yellow character somewhere between flowers and herbs.
Sweet, medium-length finish peppered with cooling mint, raw agave, saline minerality and bell peppers.
Solid stuff! Apart from some heavy hitting aromas on the nose, the overall profile is quite relaxed with an earthy, almost tea-like vibe. Splashed into a glass of ranch water, this is pretty much everything you could ask for from a cocktail mixer.
