The new standard-grade Elijah Craig doesn’t have that kind of power, but it’s also a less expensive and more accessible bourbon. Taking all that into account, it’s definitely still worth a look.
Elijah Craig Small Batch definitely has a strong oaky backbone to the aroma and smells like some older bourbon is in there, which makes sense if the story of it being made from 8-12 year old barrels is true. The palate has a similar delivery and gives off some nice oaky notes, but lacks the depth of a well matured bourbon.
An overall pleasant bourbon with a solid length to the finish for the price. Enjoyable as a daily go-to bourbon, and it's also a nice proof to enjoy on the rocks or in a cocktail.
n its current state and time, it’s exactly what it needs to be. Classic bourbon flavors of sweet vanilla and mellowed oak with a welcoming amount of heat are the quintessential bourbon characteristics.
