  • All-in-all this is a wonderful whisky and I’m a bit sad this sample is all I have of it. For an un-peated, un-sherried, un-finished whisky it carries an incredible complexity and that’s not easy to do. Well done Compass Box.

  • A moderate length finish is smooth and offers menthol with underlying rich vanillins, eucalyptus, and yet more spicy citrus zest.

  • The yin and yang of Glen Elgin and Girvan makes an admirable exercise in precision, minimalist blending. Mad as a box of frogs.

  • The finish reveals subtle spicy touches of ginger and allspice, along with vanilla and red apples. Very nice!

  • The whisky is so gentle on the whole that it’s hard to be overly effusive about it, but at the same time it is so pure and full of flavor that it’s quite impossible not to love.

  • Good but not exceptional. Unfortunately, a descriptor I'm using more and more often for CB releases

  • Nose:

Apples, honey, vanilla, buttercream, not wildly complex and reminds me of a number of products of theirs.

  • Taste:

Medium mouthfeel, apples, honey, faint pepper and smoke. Vanilla, caramel are big

  • Finish:

Medium, some heat, very apple forward, paired with apricot, pepper and the faintest smoke whisp

  • Overall:

Good but not exceptional. Unfortunately, a descriptor I'm using more and more often for CB releases
