Released in August 2023, Bib and Tucker Double Char Bourbon is aged for six years in new white American oak, followed by a finish of five months in new oak barrels that were charred and smoked with maple sugar. The bourbon follows the Lincoln County process, wherein the spirit is filtered through sugar maple charcoal before maturation.

  • It's not wildly complex, but it is an easy drinker, and pleasant enough to enjoy. Some days, that's all you need.

  • ...Overall this bourbon still delivers as an enjoyable pour while providing enough of a twist to the classic 6 that it can stand on its own without giving up on the appeal and core character of the original. There’s a lot of personality here at 88 proof, too.

  • The palate is interesting with some great chewy vanilla notes, and it pulls me back in for another sip, although the finish isn’t quite hanging on as much as I had expected with the richness of the nose.

  • The toasted flavors meld with the sweet baked goods, creating a rich and layered sip, with excellent evolution over time.

  • Nose:

Cocoa, cream and honey dance on the nose with heavy bits of char, tobacco and espresso.

  • Taste:

The extra barrel time here is pretty evident despite a thin mouthfeel. Cocoa and espresso blend with sweet cream, pepper and honey. It’s sweet and not very viscous — which is expected given the proof — but it’s easy sipping, and there aren’t any flaws popping.

  • Finish:

Short, simple and sweet finish. Marshmallow and cocoa hang on and make for a desserty, savory finish.

  • Overall:

It's not wildly complex, but it is an easy drinker, and pleasant enough to enjoy. Some days, that's all you need.

  • Score:

    80
