This was a bottle that I tried blind and then took a stab at guessing the provenance. I have a couple scotch reviews to be posted while I am working on a writeup for the recent Makers Mark Private Selection series wrap up!
I genuinely appreciate the approach Ardbeg takes in pairing heavy smokiness with otherwise light spirits; however, I felt that this particular matchup just not ever solidify in a satisfying way.
Indeed I do prefer less new oak in my whisky, but I would not cry with the wolves. I find this Auriverdes very all right – although I like the regular Ten better.
Ardbeg Auriverdes is a nose full of campfire s’mores with vanilla frosting that gives way to a lightly sweet palate that resembles a honey glazed smoked ham.
