Almave Humo is the latest nonalcoholic spirit from F1 racer Lewis Hamilton. While his previous foray took a stab at zero-proof tequila, Humo is intended as a reimagining of mezcal. The liquid begins with Espadin agaves harvested from the foothills of the Popocatépetl volcano in Puebla, Mexico. The plants are cooked in traditional earthen pits, milled and distilled, skipping the fermentation process that would convert glucose molecules into alcohol. The expression was released in 2025 and currently retails at $36.99.

Smoke dominates. In a typical mezcal, this aroma would probably be ash, wood and pine resin; here, it takes on a savory barbecue character, as if cactus and meat had been tossed directly onto the coals.
Opens with a flash of agave syrup and iced tea flavor before diving headfirst into spice and smoke. There's some rosemary, star anise, ground pepper and charred pineapple, underlined by a strong firewood vibe and plenty of humid earth. It's got a decent mouthfeel as well, far silkier than any nonalcoholic agave alternative I've tried before.
Prickles of black pepper and jalapeño combine for a genuinely spicy finish. It tastes as if something extra was added after the fact, some sort of extract or ingredient that could imitate the bite of alcohol. It works really well, coating the backend with a lick of heat that lingers long after the last sip.
Almave advertises Humo as a go-to for nonalcoholic mezcal cocktails, and at that, the spirit succeeds and then some. Its distinct smoke flavor and spicy finish have all the punch necessary to stand out in a mixed drink. Add to that a surprisingly silky mouthfeel, and this has all the makings of an essential for aspiring zero-proof mixologists.
