“The Masked Singer” judge Robin Thicke is cashing in on the canned cocktail craze with a pre-mixed espresso martini dubbed Mimá.
Earlier this week, Thicke was one of over 1,000 attendees at The Beverage Forum in Manhattan Beach, California, where industry professionals gather annually to discuss the state of the drinks world. Thicke reportedly took to the stage to announce his latest venture — described by sources in attendance as a high-ABV espresso martini that will launch sometime in the coming weeks.
The brand has yet to make a public statement, though the news has been confirmed by The Beverage Forum and an article in People Magazine.
“Espresso martinis have a very James Bond feel, and putting that level of swagger in a can was something I had to be a part of,” Thicke said at the event, per People. “We’ve been able to capture the strength, taste and quality you’d expect from the best bar-crafted cocktail into a ready-to-drink can.”
Also in attendance at the event were Elizabeth Banks, Stephen Curry, Jason Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Cheech Marin, Chris Pratt, Nikki Reed, Ian Somerlander and James Corden, all of whom have stakes in the alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks industries.
Though we can’t confirm much else about Mimá (perhaps a twist on “Mami”?) just yet, it’s safe to say that the launch falls firmly within trends of the day. The ready-to-drink cocktail market has witnessed rapid growth over the past few years and is currently projected to hit a market value of over $2.5 billion by 2033. Leading the pack are vodka seltzers like High Noon and pre-mixed renditions of popular cocktails like the margarita, Negroni and of course, espresso martini.
Where there are beverage trends, there are also celebrities, and the ready-to-drink category has been no different. Of the dozen or so A-list cocktails we’ve tried so far, we can confidently say that most are middling, at best. Surprise exceptions include Lil Yachty’s Yacht Water, Kylie Jenner’s Sprinter Vodka Soda and boxer Canelo Álvarez’s VMC, which might just be our favorite tequila soda on the market.
Narrowing in on the crowded espresso martini subgenre, Mimá will compete against rival vodka-plus-coffee cocktails from the likes of Neil Patrick Harris and Dan Aykroyd.
