Channel Your Inner Wednesday Addams With This Dark and Delicious Non-Alc Halloween Cocktail

If Wednesday Addams were to host a Halloween soirée (perhaps in season 3 of “Wednesday?”), the “Veneno de Miércoles” would undoubtedly be her drink of choice. Equal parts eerie and elegant, this non-alcoholic cocktail developed by mixologist Vibe Cabrera captures Wednesday’s signature dark charm while delivering layered, sophisticated flavor — no spirits required.

Built around Opius Rubedo, an award-winning non-alcoholic spirit crafted in Belgium that balances bitter orange peel, gentian, chinotto and rhubarb.non-alcoholic Halloween cocktail

Added to Rubedo is a touch of Three Spirit Nightcap, made with Canadian maple syrup and calming botanicals, which adds depth and warmth, while All The Bitter’s New Orleans Style bitters impart a spicy, aromatic kick. Topped with ginger beer for fizz and bite, the result is a ruby-red highball — but that hue is a problem, as we know Wednesday Addams is allergic to color. Luckily, the recipe has a solution: activated charcoal powder. Add the charcoal in front of your Halloween party guests so they can watch the drink morph from crimson to pitch black before their eyes. It’s moody alchemy fit for the queen of monotone herself.

The name, Veneno de Miércoles — Spanish for “Wednesday’s Poison” — nods to the character’s dark wit and her indifference toward the macabre.
