A Louisiana jury has found a Baton Rouge grandmother guilty of manslaughter in the death of a 4-year-old girl who was forced to drink whiskey as punishment, FOX 8 reported.
The jury determined that Roxanne Record caused the death of her granddaughter, China Record, in April 2022, after forcing the child to consume alcohol. Authorities said the punishment followed the child taking a sip from a bottle of Canadian Mist whiskey.
Investigators reported the child was made to drink the remaining contents of the bottle, which may have been more than half full. The girl later died from acute alcohol poisoning.

According to arrest records cited in earlier coverage, the child’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at a fatal level of 0.680.
The child’s mother, Kadjah Record, was also arrested in connection with the case and faces a pending trial in the 19th Judicial District. Police say she did not intervene to stop the incident.
Emergency responders found the child unresponsive at a Baton Rouge home before she was pronounced dead.
Roxanne Record had previously told investigators she “went too far” and said she wanted to take responsibility for the child’s death, according to prior reports. She had also faced additional charges, including cruelty to juveniles.
Sentencing in the manslaughter case is scheduled for later this summer.
