As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, Pabst Blue Ribbon is making a bold claim — and backing it up with 250 ounces of beer.
The iconic lager brand has launched a new campaign declaring itself “The Most American Beer” while unveiling a limited-edition Freedom Pack containing ten 25-ounce cans, or 250 total ounces, in honor of the nation’s semiquincentennial.
Limited to 4,000 packs nationwide, the oversized release arrives ahead of the Fourth of July and features patriotic artwork including fireworks and soaring bald eagles. The launch is accompanied by what Pabst calls the “Declaration of Pabst,” a tongue-in-cheek manifesto outlining why the brewery believes it deserves the title.
“We all know America is turning 250, and Pabst Blue Ribbon is celebrating the only way it knows how: by serving up 250oz of beer and making an extremely official, deeply unserious, and completely self-appointed declaration that it is The Most American Beer,” the company said in a news release.
The campaign leans heavily into exaggerated Americana, complete with references to bald eagles, V8 engines, monster trucks and the brand’s signature red, white and blue packaging. According to the declaration, Pabst doesn’t need a special patriotic can design because it has “always been red, white and blue.”
Other claims include that the sound of opening a can of Pabst resembles a V8 engine and that, “according to folklore,” the brewery gave America its first six-pack in the 1940s.
Pabst has published the full declaration on a dedicated website, MostAmerican.beer, where consumers can explore the campaign’s over-the-top mythology. The brewer also plans to release commemorative merchandise later this month tied to the 250th-anniversary celebration.
Founded in Milwaukee in 1844, Pabst Blue Ribbon predates the United States’ upcoming 250th birthday by more than three decades. The brewery says the campaign is intended to celebrate the role the brand has played in American drinking culture for generations.
The Freedom Packs are rolling out nationwide ahead of Independence Day while supplies last.
