On Tuesday night, a 35-year-old factory worker was reportedly bludgeoned to death with a boulder, allegedly at the hands of three locals, when he attempted to intervene in their consumption of alcohol at a public location, per the Times of India. The incident transpired in the city of Hyderabad in Telangana, India, where drinking alcohol in public spaces is prohibited.
According to the report, the victim, identified as Azeem, had just completed his evening meal with his family at about 9:45 p.m. before venturing out of his residence. As the night progressed, local residents conveyed distressing news to Azeem’s family concerning an unidentified individual who had been killed during a tumultuous drunken confrontation.
After setting out to search for Azeem, Khaja Moinuddin, Azeem’s father, and a local individual located the 35-year-old’s body near an electricity department’s office.
“Along with a local, Yadaiah, I went to the place near the local electricity department’s office,” Moinuddin informed the Times of India. “Azeem was lying dead in a pool of blood.”
This grim discovery prompted Moinuddin to file a formal complaint, which led to the registration of a murder case by the local authorities.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Azeem had encountered three local residents — identified as Laxman, Vishal and Mannu Kumar — engaged in the consumption of alcohol in an open area near his residence. Authorities stated that Azeem questioned their behavior, leading to a heated confrontation. The altercation escalated, allegedly resulting in the fatal bludgeoning of Azeem by the trio.
The suspects were swiftly apprehended by the police and later confessed to their involvement in the crime during the course of the investigation. Their state of inebriation at the time was noted as a contributing factor by the police.
“The accused were under influence of alcohol,” said IDA Bollarum Inspector Nayeemuddin, per the Times of India. “They confessed to have committed the murder in a fit of rage. We have seized the blood-stained boulder and clothes. Blood-soaked soil sample was collected and sent to lab for analysis.”
Nayeemuddin added that the accused were presented before the court on Thursday, where they were remanded into judicial custody.
