On Monday, Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott threw his hat into the liquor market with the launch of Tequila Volteo. First teased in January, the brand is a collaboration between the superstar quarterback and Texas-based spirits firm Zamora Company.

Fans can expect the “ultra-premium” tequila to hit shelves on October 4. Its Blanco is said to boast flavors of pine, citrus and acacia, while its ex-bourbon-aged Reposado highlights cinnamon, spice and orange blossom. The final expression, Volteo Cristalino, reinterprets the charcoal-filtered trend with subtle flavors of vanilla and caramel. Bottles will be made available at $69.99, $89.99 and $99.99, respectively.

All are said to be additive-free, with verification pending from the recently relaunched Additive Free Alliance. Matt Appleby, CEO of Zamora Company USA, says the brand encapsulates Precott’s lifestyle on and off the field.

“As an athlete, Dak is very thoughtful about what he eats and drinks, so when we began developing this tequila with him, he was insistent that we keep it clean and natural, with no sugar or other additives – and that’s exactly what we did, “Appleby remarked in a new release. “True luxury is additive-free, and that’s a distinction very few brands, if any, can claim. Tequila VOLTEO is a game changer.”

Inspiration for the brand may have come from within the family. Prescott’s girlfriend, Sarah Jane Ramos, is reportedly an area manager at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, the largest liquor distributor in America. Before that, she had stints at Diageo — the company behind myriad massive brands like Casamigos — and Moet Hennessy, the owner of Hennessy Cognac and Volcan de Mi Tierra Tequila.

Prescott and Ramos welcomed their first child on Feb. 29.

Other inspirations pay direct homage to Prescott’s roots. Following the loss of his mother to colon cancer in 2013 and the tragic suicide of his brother in 2020, the football player founded the Faith Fight Finish Foundation to support families struggling through adversity. A portion of proceeds from Volteo — Spanish for “to turn things around” — will be earmarked for the non-profit.

Popular as celebrity-backed tequila may be, football players haven’t gotten in on the game until relatively recently. The biggest exception is Casa Azul, a tequila soda brand that recruited both Travis Kelce and Rob Gronkowski as investors over the past year. El Bandido Yankee, founded by former Green Bay Packers safety Jim Bob Morris and NHL Hall-of-Famer Chris Chelios, also merits a shoutout.

“Tequila VOLTEO was created to elevate the luxury tequila category by challenging the status quo and honoring our founder Dak’s vision to craft a spirit of uncompromising standards,” Appleby added. “The same strength of character that defines Dak’s purpose in life – honesty, integrity, and tireless work – is what goes into crafting Tequila VOLTEO.”
