On Wednesday, Barrell Craft Spirits, the celebrated American whiskey blender, announced the fourth release in its Barrell Bourbon Cask Finish Series: Ice Wine.
The latest member of Barrell Bourbon’s Cask Finish Series is a blend of 5-, 6-, 7-, 8-, 9- and 11-year-old bourbons from Indiana; 5- and 8-year-old bourbons from Kentucky; 9- and 15-year-old bourbons from Tennessee; and 9-year-old bourbon from Wyoming. The final blend was aged for an undisclosed period of time in ice wine casks and bottled at a cask-strength 106.52 proof. The final mashbill of the blend is 71% corn, 24% rye, 4% malted barley and 1% wheat.
Ice wine is a sweet dessert wine produced from grapes that froze while on the vine.
The new bourbon is available online now at Barrell Craft Spirits’ website and from select retailers. It has a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750-milliliter bottle.
Ice Wine follows Barrell’s previous Cask Finish Series bourbons, which were finished in amburana, rum and mizunara casks.
Tasting notes, via Barrell Craft Spirits: “Bright and complex, with a rich body, and notes of stone fruit and white chocolate.”
