Jack and Coke fans may have had their prayers answered Monday when Jack Daniel’s announced its latest ready-to-drink canned cocktail flavor: Jack and Coca-Cola Cherry. The brand referred to its latest release as a “refreshing twist on a beloved classic,” and the cans are available for a limited time.
“Building on our tradition of innovation, we’re excited to present a fresh take that marries the renowned character of our Tennessee Whiskey with the timeless taste of Coca-Cola cherry,” Jack Daniel’s RTD Brand Director Mary Beth O’Mara said in a statement. “This new Canned Cocktail embodies the perfect blend of sweetness and strength, making it an ideal choice for the season.”
The cans are available throughout the U.S. and are presented in 4-packs, which each host a suggested retail price of $12.99. Each can possesses an ABV of 7% and a suggested retail price of $3.50.
The limited Coca-Cola Cherry release joins Jack Daniel’s robust portfolio of canned cocktails. The Tennessee whiskey brand’s line includes Jack Daniel’s & Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel’s & Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Jack Daniel’s and Ginger Ale, Jack Honey & Lemonade, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple and Jack Daniel’s Whiskey & Seltzer. And then there’s the brand’s Country Cocktail Line, which features a diverse selection of eight expressions: Black Jack Cola, Lynchburg Lemonade, Southern Citrus, Southern Peach, Townhome Punch, Watermelon Punch, Berry Punch and Cherry Limeade.
Forbes reported on Tuesday about the rapid growth of the RTD category, citing convenience as a major factor. The outlet claimed that it was the only category within the global beverage world to experience volume growth in 2023, with a 2% volume growth and 6% value growth. The category is projected to continue growing annually by 3% until 2028. Yet, with such growth, some challenges are bound to occur.
“Maintaining the interest of consumers with new innovative products will likely be the biggest challenge for RTDs over the next few years,” said Market Analyst at Beverage Industry Research Form IWSR, according to Forbes. “A portion of recent innovation has centered around tropical flavors and pairing familiar flavors with more esoteric ones.”
Some brands have already begun to focus on premium RTDs from an innovation standpoint, and they appear to generate interest as long as the quality is there and they have a unique hook. Such an example of a premium brand entering the RTD space would be Glenlivet’s launch of two classic cocktails with the brand’s “Twist & Mix” line. The releases dropped in August 2023 and featured an innovative twist cap that releases mixers into the bottle of scotch whisky.
It appears RTDs are going to be around for a while, and the future looks bright for this relatively new category.
