‘Woman of Her Word’: Tennis Star Aryna Sabalenka Serves up Tequila Cocktails to Celebrate US Open Semifinal Victory

As the U.S. Open draws to a close, a steady trickle of boozy tennis news has found its way into the national conversation. Chief among these topics is, expectedly, speculation about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s courtside liquor choices. (In case you’re wondering, the couple reportedly ordered four bottles of Moët & Chandon Champagne alongside a round of Honey Deuce cocktails.) Elsewhere, Aperol capitalized on the zeitgeist with a “tenniscore” merch drop in collaboration with “Emily in Paris” star Ashley Park.

In retrospect, every liquor brand under the sun seemed eager to get in on the festivities this year. Only one, however, was lucky enough to get mentioned on the court itself.

Ahead of her semifinal match against Emma Navarro, Belarusian tennis star Aryana Sabalenka promised “margaritas for everyone” in the crowd courtesy of Maestro Dobel Tequila. The shoutout was hardly a slip of the tongue — Sabalenka has been an ambassador of Dobel for three years running, a brand which itself is the “Official Tequila” of the U.S. Open.

Sabalenka went on to secure victory against Navarro, ensuring her second straight U.S. Open final match. Now, her guarantee is being fulfilled, at least in part, by her spirits sponsor.

Maestro Dobel is offering drinkers in New York City $10 off their next cocktail or neat serve if they text *drinksonme* to the phone number 24272.  Following the announcement on Monday, users flooded into the comments with excitement, chiming in “Queen doing queen things!” and “A woman of her word.” We’ll try our best to forget that cocktails in NYC regularly climb toward $20 and more.

Dobel is one of several brands owned by Proximo Spirits, the conglomerate behind mainstays like Jose Cuervo, 1800, Gran Coramino and Gran Centenario. The brand tried its hand at penning a signature cocktail for last year’s tournament dubbed the Maestro Dobel Ace Paloma, though the concoction has fast been overshadowed by Grey Goose’s ultra-viral Honey Deuce. Throwing itself back into the fray, Dobel has named its latest collaboration with the two-time Australian Open winner the “Marg-Anya.”

Fans can cash in on the promo from Sept. 9 through Sept. 15.

This year’s U.S. Open proved an unexpected hotspot for hit cocktails. The star of the show, without a doubt, was the previously noted Honey Deuce, made from a combination of Grey Goose Vodka, lemonade, raspberry liqueur and a signature garnish of frozen honeydew melon balls.

Though it’s unclear how the drink reached peak virality nearly two decades after its invention, influencers were more than happy to oblige the trend with a wave of pink cheers. Serena Williams even took to TikTok with a remixed version splashed with tequila.
