  • The 18-year-old WhistlePig Double Malt Rye has an enticing nose and oily mouth feel. Notes of cinnamon and allspice are evident throughout the tasting process.

  • Overall, this is really well executed. I was really wary of this release given the high price and the “collector” appeal that they seem to be going with but the quality is here and it’s extremely enjoyable.

  • Nose:

Bright orange peel, citrus, rye spice, clove, pepper and honey. Vibrant, funky and sweet.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel, not too thick but plenty complex. Heat is well placed. Honey, praline, toffee and bright citrus sweetness. Lime zest, rising bread, brown sugar and clove.

  • Finish:

Long finish, rich and pepper. Tons of rye spice, raw pepper character. It’s rich, spicy, fruity, everything I love in a rye.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is really well executed. I was really wary of this release given the high price and the “collector” appeal that they seem to be going with but the quality is here and it’s extremely enjoyable.
