Thieves carried out a major wine heist over the weekend after cutting a hole in the ceiling of a California liquor store. The owner of Lincoln Fine Wines claims the thieves made off with at least $700,000 worth of rare wines early Saturday morning, around 1 A.M. Surveillance cameras caught the incident on video.

“They cleaned it out,” Nazmul Haque Helal, who owns Lincoln Fine Wines, told KTLA. “They took everything, so we don’t have anything left in the Burgundy and Bordeaux side.”

The estimated value of stolen wine is between $700,000 to $800,000 worth of blue-chip wines, mainly from France and Italy. Blue-chip refers to collector bottles since the wines are considered high quality and a good investment.

Helal released surveillance videos in hopes that the persons involved can be caught before another business is hit.

The video shows a white truck supposedly casing the area after being caught by the surveillance cameras driving past several times. The same truck appeared to park along Indiana Ave at the back of the store.

After the truck parks, the surveillance video then shows a person scaling a large white shipping container with tools in their hands. The individual reportedly cut a hole in the ceiling above the liquor store’s cellar where the most expensive wines were stored. Cameras inside the store show an individual dropping down into the store. Employees said they then covered some of the surveillance cameras before cutting off the external lights.

The theft appeared to be orchestrated, with the thieves having knowledge of the store’s layout and security beforehand.

Helal is sending a list of the stolen wines to stores and auction houses to be on alert for any suspicious large lots of wine.
