The independent, sustainably driven design agency, Butterfly Cannon, announced in a Feb. 14 Instagram post the debut of clever, rain boot-inspired packaging from Laphroaig. The brand’s new “Give Them Some Wellie” campaign features Wellington boot-inspired packaging for the Islay Scotch brand’s whisky bottles.

Described as a disruptive departure from the “somewhat stuffy Scotch category,” the whimsical wellie-themed packaging is a nod to the “Friends of Laphroaig” community. Individuals who are a part of the community and venture to the distillery are loaned a pair of green Wellington boots when they find their plot at the property.

Butterfly Cannon reports that the pack was meant to be reusable due to its durable material. The bag is embossed with the letter “L” and the words “Friends of Laphroaig.”

According to the outlet, a statement from the designers intended that the container was meant to carry outdoor gear, water bottles and art supplies. It also comes in handy for those interested in purchasing another bottle of Laphroaig and taking the stuff into the great outdoors.

About Friends of Laphroaig

Friends of Laphroaig is the Islay whisky brand’s membership program, and fans of the distillery can sign up here. Friends of Laphroaig earn points every time they purchase a bottle of Laphroaig and upload their receipts to the website or purchase bottles online.

As individuals accrue more points, they earn perks including an honorary square foot of Islay at the distillery and access to rare Cáirdeas expressions, which celebrate those enrolled in the distillery’s membership program. The word “Cáirdeas” means “friendship” in Gaelic.

Laphroaig’s 2023 edition of Càirdeas was a high-proof scotch finished in 75% White Port and 25% Madeira casks. The expression received a score of 8/10 at Whiskey Raiders, and you can watch our thoughts on the expression below:
