On Tuesday, Green River Distilling Co. announced the release of its first rye whiskey. Green River Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey hosts a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley.

“Green River Rye is approachable, easy drinking with a memorable finish,” head distiller Aaron Harris said in a news release. “This rye whiskey is a compelling addition to the growing Green River Portfolio.”

The whiskey clocks in at 95 proof and hosts a suggested retail price of $34.99. It will be available for purchase starting Feb. 1.

Green River Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is composed of 4- to 6-year-old barrels that were distilled, aged and bottled at Green River’s facilities in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The brand’s latest release follows the 119-proof, single-barrel bourbon which launched in July.

Green River offers four expressions within its core portfolio: Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Kentucky Wheated Bourbon, Single Barrel Bourbon and now the rye whiskey.

The brand was bought by Bardstown Bourbon Company in July 2022 and has seen quite a bit of growth since then.

Green River Distilling Co. expressed it intended to expand its distribution footprint and add eight new markets, which would make it available in 34 states across the U.S. by the end of 2024.

In 2024, Green River Distilling Co. will be available in Nevada, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Washington, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Massachusetts.

Green River will host an all-day launch party at the distillery Feb. 1 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Bottle sales are set to begin at 9 a.m., and the distillery will be offering VIP tours helmed by Head Distiller Aaron Harris.

Food and cocktails will be served from 2-5 p.m. Guests can enjoy live music.
