This is the 11th act of Utah distillery High West's popular annual release, a Midwinter Night's Dram. This act debuted in October 2023. A Midwinter Night's Dram begins with High West's Rendezvous Rye, which is finished in ruby and tawny port barrels.
Overall, more herbal and hearty rye than fruit-forward and sweet which you might expect from a "midwinter night's dram." But it still makes for a nice nightcap.
It doesn’t quite touch the near-superlative mark of some much earlier releases — which contained 16 year old rye! — and comes close to fumbling the balance of sweet and spice at one or two barely noticeable junctures. But overall, Act 11 is a delicious finished rye that feels just about right for cold winter nights. As it should.

House Review
Nose:
Jammy, pop of citrus, honey, cranberry, strawberry, cherry and a blast of baking spice, vanilla cream, rye spice
Taste:
Moderate palate, pleasant mouthfeel. Rye spice and port wine come together, packed with berries like cranberry, lingonberry, strawberry, a hint of spearmint and dill, cracked pepper and baking spice.
Finish:
Long finish with plentiful rye spice and pleasant oak. The grainy youthful notes of previous acts are gone, replaced with pleasant character and enough complexity to throw back to the earliest and best batches. Tons of berry character blended with loads of rye spice and a pop of acidity to balance.
Overall:
This is the best MWND in recent years and it’s an easy win over even last year’s (which was pretty darn good).

88
