Meikle Tòir The Chinquapin One is a peated Speyside single malt Scotch made at The GlenAllachie Distillery. It is made from malted barley peated to 35 ppm with mainland peat from St. Fergus and fermented for 160 hours. It is aged five years in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in Chinquapin virgin oak from Missouri, and is bottled at 48% ABV for around $75.
Fairly gentle on the palate and the smoke becomes lingering rather than so rich. Lots of fruit comes through here: some roasted banana and warm pineapple, then a touch of toffee and green grass.
The palate is light and honeyed with an initial smack of red licorice that shifts to marzipan and fresh pie spice before a gentle finish of coffee bean, pipe smoke, and a hint of lavender.
The palate brings dried cherry, milk chocolate, burnt sugar, toasted flaked almonds, espresso, aniseed balls, clove, and forest honey, with a lengthy finish of granola and roasted spices
