The nose is spicy but mature, with plenty of clove and cinnamon complemented by oatmeal.
On the palate, this is a delicious rye whiskey with a nice, thick viscosity. Plenty of cinnamon, plus gingerbread, brown sugar, clove, tapioca, fig and dark cherry, plus lemon peel. Cocoa and espresso kicks in on the back end.
The finish begins intensely spicy, with plenty of cinnamon, powdered ginger and clove, joined by orange peel. That profile holds steady for quite a while, eventually giving way to seared oak and a lightly fruity vibe of apple and blackberry.
A big, flavorful rye that’s bursting with spice. Beam doesn’t miss on these Overholt releases, and this one is no exception.
