Jameson Triple Triple is an Irish blended whiskey produced at Midleton Distillery in County Cork by Irish Distillers. It combines triple-distilled pot still and grain whiskeys made from malted and unmalted barley and non-GMO maize. The whiskey is matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks before a finishing period in sweet chestnut casks. Bottled at 40% ABV, it carries a suggested retail price of $29.99.
Orange and lemon segments, red apple, caramel, Jell-O cubes tossed in powdered sugar, and background spices make this sweeter and fruitier than regular Jameson, though the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
The palate is surprisingly nutty, with bolder almond notes than expected, evoking amaretto at times, at least up front. Milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla are all in attendance, the whiskey venturing into notes of coconut and more of a toasted almond character as the body develops.
More of this sweet, gently hot ginger note. I’ve never knowingly tried chestnut wood matured whiskey, if this is what it does to it then sign me up for more.
As thin as you’d expect from 40%, but at the same time still possessing a softness and silkiness. Again leading off on fruits – strawberries and cranberries which moves towards toffee and toasted oak in the mid palate, before presenting pepper and cinnamon spicing, roasted cereals and slightly metallic graininess in the back.
Mellow and approachable with gentle vanilla and grassy notes, evolving into mouth-filling butterscotch and fudge, finishing light with balanced acid and soft warmth.
