Amador Whiskey Co. Double Barrel Kentucky Bourbon Finished in Chardonnay Barrels is a sourced wheated bourbon distilled at Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, and finished in California by Trinchero Family Estates. The mash bill is 65% corn, 20% wheat and 15% malted barley, aged three years in new charred American oak barrels and then finished for 9-12 months in Napa Cellars Chardonnay French oak barrels. It is bottled at 43.4% ABV (86.8 proof) and retails for around $40-$45.
Immediately spicy, with a sharp, almost tannic lingering finish, this whiskey is bold. Sweet kettlecorn, cinnamon, vanilla, and raisin notes are present, but most intriguing is a lightly floral, marigold and a pretty note of saffron.
Caramel sweetness intertwines with oak, vanilla and coconut, while a meandering, slightly earthy finish suggests mellow cocoa and a puff of campfire smoke.
