Northcross Triple Wood Irish Whiskey is made at the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, and bottled by Latitude Beverage Co. It is a blend of pot still and column still whiskeys, including both double and triple distilled varieties, aged in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso Sherry casks and virgin American oak, with a mashbill of 90% grain whiskey and 10% malted barley. It is bottled non-chill filtered at 43% ABV and retails for around $24.99.
The palate opens in similar fashion to the nose, with butterscotch, coconut, and vanilla dominating. Midpalate brings apple compote, raisin, walnut, and a touch of lemon peel. The medium-length finish brings drying oak tannins and again that slight hospital note as the flavors gently fade.
