Jack Daniel’s Doesn’t Sell a Bourye — So We Blended Our Own

The Bourye category — simply any blend of bourbon and rye whiskey — is one that’s still niche but has gained popularity over the past several years. It was popularized by High West, which makes a phenomenal Bourye (Fun fact: High West actually has the term “Bourye” trademarked, which is why you don’t see the term used by other brands).

Other examples of Bouryes are Knob Creek’s Bourbon x Rye Whiskey, Michter’s Sour Mash Whiskey andRedwood Empire Lost Monarch. Beam and Wild Turkey have experimented with Bouryes in their Little Book and Master’s Keep series.

One major distillery that doesn’t sell a bourbon-rye blend — with the exception of a highly limited 2021 “Tennessee Tasters'” exclusive release — is Jack Daniel’s. The Daily Pour internet personality Wiskeyer, who loves a good Bourye, decided to take matters into his own hands and blend his own.

A simple 50/50 mix of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye and Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey, and boom: a Jack Daniel’s bourbon-rye blend.

“That meshes together so well,” Wiskeyer said upon tasting his creation. “It’s the perfect balance of rye and their regular whiskey.”

We encourage you to try this at home, whether it’s with Jack Daniel’s or a different distillery — or multiple distilleries. After all, home blending is one of the most fun activities a whiskey geek can engage in.

“I think I might like this better than each one on its own,” Wiskeyer said in the video.

We hope Jack Daniel’s puts out a bourye officially at some point. In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep making our own.

Check out Wiskeyer’s video below, and let us know if you try any blending of your own!
