In a recent courtroom development at England’s Carlisle Crown Court, the sentencing of Iulian Bucur and Eduard Cristea unfolded, shedding light on a sophisticated booze shoplifting operation targeting high-end supermarkets across three towns in Cumbria. As reported by Cumbria Crack, the duo, along with an unidentified third accomplice, employed Bluetooth earpieces for seamless communication during their criminal spree.

According to Cumbria Crack’s coverage, the organized thefts commenced at a Booths store in Penrith, where the trio discreetly bagged high-value spirits, making off with approximately £900 (about $1,137) in stolen goods. Their illicit activities extended to the Windermere and Ulverston branches, employing similar tactics to pilfer £636.50 ($804.43) and £615.50 ($777.90) worth of alcohol, respectively.

Prosecutor Gerard Rogerson revealed that the three culprits strategically communicated using Bluetooth earpieces, with one keeping a vigilant watch as the others executed the thefts. Recorder Julian Shaw, presiding over the case, expressed satisfaction with the evidence presented, characterizing the criminal endeavor as “organized, sophisticated and planned.”

Both Bucur and Cristea, unlawfully present in the U.K., admitted to four theft charges each, per the report. The court learned of their prior criminal records, with Bucur having committed thefts in Belgium and France. Notably, none of the pilfered items were recovered, underscoring the notion of “stealing alcohol effectively to order.”

Despite lacking legal representation, the defendants opted for swift sentencing. Bucur received an eight-month jail term, while Cristea was sentenced to six months, the news outlet noted.
