Don Julio — arguably the king of glitzy, club-friendly tequila — is back with an eye-catching new release.

Alma Miel (“honey of the soul” in English) combines blanco tequila spruced with oven-roasted agave honey and 14-month añejo tequila finished in Crémant du Limoux wine casks. The sweetened influences are said to create a spirit brimming with notes of spiced orchard fruit, creamy caramel and rich roasted agave.

Bottles of the new Joven tequila will hit liquor store shelves nationwide at $99.99 in the coming months.

“Our love for the craft is what keeps Tequila Don Julio at the forefront of luxury tequila and a force when it comes to sharing some of the most exceptional expressions with the world,” says Christina Choi, Senior Vice President of Tequila at Diageo North America.

“With the launch of Tequila Don Julio Alma Miel, we hope to inspire tequila lovers who are exploring new innovations as we pay tribute to the spirit of Mexico through the agave plant.”

Alma Miel’s tall and stout decanter takes clear design inspiration from the ever-popular Don Julio 1942. The brand has released several twists on the concept over the past few years, including the ruby port wine-finished Don Julio Rosado and orange wine-finished Don Julio Primavera. Stacked up side by side, a fairly colorful collection so far as tequila goes.

Alma Miel is the brand’s first foray into Joven tequila, expressions that retain the appearance of a blanco but are mixed with trace reserves of an aged reposado or añejo.
