WhistlePig Whiskey Toasts 4/20 With Marijuana-Flavored Maple Syrup

WhistlePig, the Vermont distiller equally synonymous with rye whiskey as it is ludicrous gold-embellished bottles and April Fool’s-esque marketing stunts, is back in the headlines. This time around, the brand is teaming up with the cast of the 2001 cult comedy “Super Troopers” for a cannabis-infused maple syrup designed for use in your next dank cocktail.
The unabridged name of the product is, *deep breath*: WhistlePig Limited-Edition Non-Psychoactive Troopers Edition Sticky Icky Natural Cannabis Terpene Infused Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup.
Let’s start with the basics. Perhaps most importantly, the “sticky icky” inside each 375-milliliter bottle won’t get you high. Rather, the organic Vermont syrup is infused with terpenes — naturally derived cannabis flavoring — before aging for an undisclosed period in WhistlePig Whiskey barrels. The syrup is recommended for use inside a Maple Old Fashioned and is currently on sale in a $75 bundle complete with a bottle of PiggyBack Rye 6-year.
Though conventional tasting notes are few and far between, the brand insists that “it’s herbal, it’s earthy, it’s maple-y AF.” In his review, Maxim writer G. Clay Whittaker opined that the syrup is pleasantly aromatic with terpenes, while relatively subdued on the palate.
The other selling point of the syrup is a detachable felt mustache found atop each label. This is where the “Super Troopers” angle of the release comes in.
Released in 2001 and followed up with a sequel in 2018, the franchise is the brainchild of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, made up of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. Much like WhistlePig, Super Troopers is based in Vermont. Much like the Sticky Icky syrup, the film is often conflated with stoner culture.
Broken Lizard first joined forces with the distiller last year for an inaugural, non-THC-flavored syrup that came packaged with a miniature waffle maker. Earlier this month, the unlikely duo reteamed to list a $4.2 million “Maple Sugar Shack” on Zillow. The listing was more prank than it was real estate, intended to show off an AI-powered tool that enables immersive virtual home tours. The “Super Troopers” cast made a big fuss in a promo video about protecting and serving Vermont’s maple syrup supply — a joke that now segues neatly into their latest collaboration with the distiller.
