Luxury scotch whisky brand The Macallan announced Wednesday that it has opened its first West Coast travel retail boutique inside Los Angeles International Airport’s Tom Bradley International Terminal, expanding its U.S. footprint.
The 92-square-meter (990-square-foot) space is the brand’s first retail presence in a West Coast airport and aims to connect with international travelers, especially ahead of major global events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics. The shop is located alongside luxury names like Hermès, Gucci and Cartier.

“This is an exciting step for us,” Kasper Andersen, regional managing director of global travel retail at Edrington, said in a news release. “LAX is a true crossroads for global travellers and this boutique lets us share the story of The Macallan’s heritage, craftsmanship and deep connection to nature in a truly immersive way.”
The shop’s design follows The Macallan’s “Nurtured by Nature” concept, created with architect Jamie Fobert. The space draws on materials that reflect the brand’s distillery in Speyside, Scotland, and its “Six Pillars” — the key elements that define its whisky.

Copper and oak feature heavily, highlighting the distillery’s stills and casks. A wave-like wall mirrors the Macallan distillery’s roof, while red accents pay tribute to the brand’s visual heritage. Charred oak shelves reference the casks that shape the whisky’s flavor. One wall is built from Albariza brick, a nod to the soil used to grow sherry grapes in Spain — important to the seasoning process for Macallan’s sherry casks.
The centerpiece of the space is “Dancing Leaf,” a sculpture by local artist Sarah Ippolito. Inspired by the American oak trees used in cask aging, the piece is intended to capture the range of natural colors found in The Macallan’s whiskies. A custom ambient soundtrack created by Mimi Xu Studio using field recordings from the Scottish estate adds another sensory layer.

Staff are available throughout the boutique to walk guests through the lineup, explain each expression and offer tailored recommendations. A private consultation room allows for tastings and one-on-one conversations. A dedicated gifting area provides wrapping and personalization.
Travelers will find a wide range of whiskies, from travel-exclusive and boutique-only releases to premium expressions including the Colour Collection.
“Los Angeles is a vibrant, international hub, and this new space allows us to engage with a diverse community of travellers and whisky enthusiasts,” said Wilcy Wong, commercial director for Edrington’s global travel retail arm.
The Macallan’s arrival strengthens the luxury offerings at LAX, which continues to invest in premium shopping experiences as it prepares to host more global traffic in the coming years.
“The opening of The Macallan boutique adds a new dimension to the retail landscape at Tom Bradley International Terminal,” said Denise Sample, director of concessions and tenant relations at Los Angeles World Airports. “We are excited to welcome this renowned brand and its retail concept.”
