The GlenDronach Releases Annual Offering Of One Of Its ‘Most Luxurious Expressions to Date’ — A Liquid Love Letter to Sherry

On Wednesday, The GlenDronach announced the annual Grandeur release — Batch 12 this year — will hit shelves in select markets for the price of $830.
This limited-edition sherried expression is an ode to the brand’s signature sherry-imbued style. Grandeur Batch 12 hosts a 29-year age statement and is made of sherry casks hand-chosen by Master Blender Rachel Barrie.
“Every year since its inception in 2010, each limited edition batch of The GlenDronach Grandeur series has been highly anticipated and acclaimed, revered by connoisseurs and malt whisky aficionados for its character and full-bodied style and this is one of its most luxurious expressions to date,” Barrie said in a news release.
The whisky is bottled at 49.2% ABV and was matured in Oloroso sherry casks.
Oloroso sherry is a nutty and slightly oxidative style of sherry. Oloroso sherries enter the barrel at a higher alcohol content and are typically sweeter than other expressions like Fino, according to Serious Eats.
In May, GlenDronach released its Cask Strength Batch 12 edition, which was matured in Pedro Ximénez casks. Pedro Ximénez is a dessert-forward sherry that has a higher sugar content than Oloroso.
The whisky was bottled at natural cask strength, which GlenDronach says was a nod to traditions of the 19th century.
