Royal Salute announced on Thursday the sixth installment within its Polo Collection: Royal Salute 21-Year-Old Miami Polo Edition. The 21-year-old scotch whisky was aged in an “all-American” mixture of first-fill bourbon and rye casks, marking a first for Royal Salute.
“Miami is such a dynamic city, so we wanted to craft a blend that would echo this with an exciting new dimension,” Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop said in a statement. “Selecting the finest first-fill bourbon and rye casks to finish the special formulation of whiskies aged for a minimum of 21 years allowed us to impart some incredible flavors and emphasize the sweet and spicy notes of the final blend, perfectly nodding to Miami’s vibrant scene.”
The whisky hosts a suggested retail price of $190 and an ABV of 40%. The liquid is housed in a bright pink decanter, with a box meant to capture Miami’s distinctive architecture. Royal Salute claims the whisky possesses vanilla and coconut aromas, that beautifully capture the city’s sun-kissed beaches.
“The city’s cultural energy is electric, and as a contemporary capital of polo, it’s a fitting destination to honor within the Royal Salute Polo Collection,” Royal Salute World Polo Ambassador and world-renowned polo player Malcolm Borwick said in a news release. “Capturing its dynamism within a high-aged Scotch whisky is no easy feat, and this new blend will be a perfect dram to enjoy after my next polo match there.”
The brand intends to hold a two-day event in Palm Beach that includes a polo match at Grand Champions Polo Club, where the world-renowned polo player Malcolm Borwick will play as part of the “Royal Salute Polo Challenge in Support of Sentebale.” The polo challenge intends to support vulnerable communities in Lesotho and Botswana.
In October, the Pernod Ricard-owned brand unveiled a $120,000 whisky sculpture in partnership with the artist Conrad Shawcross. The sculpture was an homage to time — a crucial component of the whisky-making process.
