Speyside scotch whisky Longmorn announced on Feb. 1 that it was releasing two expressions, kicking off its 130th anniversary year. The scotch whiskies host 18- and 22-year-old age statements.
“The anniversary year is the perfect moment in the spotlight for this exceptional whisky,” Chivas Brothers Cask Expert Kevin Balmforth said in a news release. “The 18-year-old and 22-year-old whiskies, like all Longmorn single malts, feature the creamy toffee profile which is quintessentially Longmorn. They espouse the whisky’s spirit of endurance and are intended to be savored, representing Longmorn’s dedication to quality.”
The expressions feature new labeling and decanter-style packaging. The brand chose to take inspiration for the design from a historic railway, featuring gold arches on a purple background. The brand explains that during the distillery’s early years Longmorn’s founder, John Duff, built the distillery a railway so it could import ingredients for the production process, and export bottles of the finished product around the world.
“This year is Longmorn’s 130th anniversary, Chivas Brothers Marketing Director of Malts Jayne Murphy expressed. “Throughout time, Longmorn has never stopped producing, refining and perfecting single malt whisky of the signature Speyside style from its inception by entrepreneur John Duff to today. The new deep purple and statement gold design, which celebrates Longmorn’s origin story, make these bottles the perfect addition for any drinker, collector, or connoisseur’s cabinet.”
The whiskies are matured in mostly American oak casks and drawn at cask strength, according to the brand. Longmorn 18-Year-Old hosts a suggested retail price of $279.99, while Longmorn 22-Year-Old is priced at $439.99.
Longmorn 18-Year-Old is described by the brand as hosting Longmorn’s signature toffee flavor, with tropical fruit and orchard fruit. It segues into a finish of creamy milk chocolate with a subtle sweetness. The Speyside brand says the 22-year-old has plenty of depth, with hazelnut praline, toffee and poached pears in citrus juice.
