Got a Sweet Tooth? Glenmorangie Released a Sauternes Cask-Aged Scotch That Channels a Trip to Pastry Shops

On Wednesday, The Spirits Business reported that Glenmorangie has unveiled a reworked iteration of its dessert-driven dram, The Nectar.

The refurbished recipe includes a heightened age statement and a slight deviation in the aging process. The whisky is finished in a variety of dessert wine casks that include French Sauternes and Monbazillac casks, Spanish Moscatel casks and Hungarian Tokaji casks. The Nectar hosts a 46% ABV.

Glenmorangie’s previous iteration was simply titled Nectar d’Or and was finished in Sauternes casks without an age statement.

“Glenmorangie The Nectar is inspired by the sweet, buttery scents that swirl around French patisseries,” Glenmorangie Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden said, according to The Spirits Business. “By enhancing the recipe of our dessert-like whisky, we sought to make it even more sumptuously sweet and complex.”

The Nectar also hosts revamped packaging including a new bottle shape, and a refurbished carton. Glenmorangie’s The Nectar hosts a suggested retail price of £79 ($97).

“This single malt has an unparalleled range of sweet, nectar-like flavors,” Lumsden said. “Notes of brioche and orange syrup collide with honeycomb and spices, such as nutmeg and star anise. This is an irresistible dram for whisky lovers old and new.”

In September, Glenmorangie released a Mizunara oak-finished expression, A Tale of Tokyo. The whisky hosted a price of $109.99 and was matured in sherry and bourbon casks in addition to the rare species of Japanese oak.

Glenmorangie’s 15 Year Old Cadboll Estate release made the list of the 11 Best Whiskeys We Tasted In October 2023.
