The Famous Grouse Debuts 1st Sherry Cask-Finished Whisky

Blended scotch whisky brand The Famous Grouse launched its first sherry cask-finished whiskey, Scottish Local Retailer reported Monday.

The brand’s latest expression is a blend of Speyside malts matured in sherry-seasoned, European oak casks.

The packaging of Sherry Cask Finish depicts the Spanish female capercaillie bird. It was chosen for its link to the product’s Spanish sherry heritage, according to SLR. The bird’s vivid orange and red plumage is intended to echo the color of the whisky. Alongside its ongoing support for RSPB, the UK’s largest nature conservation charity, The Famous Grouse plans to support further habitat protection projects focusing on the Capercaillie.

“This new, revived blend is finished in sherry casks and butts seasoned in the region of Jerez, Spain,” Sanele Gwala, Global Senior Brand Manager at The Famous Grouse, said. “The aim was to create a blend that is slightly sweeter but still in keeping with the smooth and distinct DNA of classic Grouse.

“Once the blend is in its final stages of maturation, which involves the meticulous combination of hand-selected malt and grain whiskies, The Famous Grouse Master Blender does not stop there. The full blend is married in ex-sherry casks to further enhance their sweet, rich, and smooth characters. The Sherry Cask Finish is a decadent blend of festive flavours including chocolate, almonds, dried fruits, and sweet spices.”

The bottling is available in 19 global markets.

In March, The Famous Grouse debuted its first online-exclusive whiskey, The Famous One.
