Douglas Laing & Co has announced the first limited-edition under its award-winning Campbeltown Malt Scotch Whisky brand: The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish.

The Gauldrons Sherry Edition, limited to 2,125 bottles, joins the core Gauldrons expression, which launched in 2017 and won a gold medal for best Blended Malt – No Age Statement – at the 2020 Scotch Whisky Masters.

A blend of single malts from Campbeltown, The Gauldrons Sherry Edition was finished in Spanish Sherry Casks and bottled at 46.2% ABV.

“We’re thrilled to launch the first ever limited edition for The Gauldrons,” Cara Laing, marketing director, said, according to Whisky Experts. “The classic Gauldrons spirit is always a standout dram for us, earning rave reviews from the industry and delighting consumers at events the world over. Experimenting with these exceptional-quality Sherry casks has resulted in a classically Campbeltown dram with smoky sweetness balanced by rich spices, and we truly can’t wait to share it with whisky aficionados across the globe.”

The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish is available from specialist spirits retailers and online. It is expected to retail at £60 ($76). It is available from Tyndrum Whisky for £56 ($71).

The Gauldrons Sherry Edition Tasting Notes

Nose: Remarkably sweet… toffee apples, marshmallows, caramelised sugar and candyfloss.
Palate: Crème brûlée, evolving to ginger, nutmeg and red apple with lingering smoked barley.
Finish: Sharp – tangy orange sweets, stewed red fruits with black pepper covered strawberries.

Gauldrons translates from Gaelic to mean “bay of storms.” Its name is a reference to the “dark sandy coves” in Campbeltown.
