Chivas Regal Put a ‘Smooth and Smoky’ Twist on Its Newest Scotch

On Wednesday, blended scotch whisky producer Chivas Regal added a smoky cask-finished twist to its “Extra” range.

Said to combine the “richness” of Regal’s traditional house style with the “gentle taste of smooth smoke,” the 40%-ABV expression was reportedly finished in ex-peated whisky casks before bottling. Though peat has always featured prominently for the brand, this latest addition was designed to elevate those influences from a subtle nod to the forefront.

The bottler says to expect festive aromas of spiced apples and roasted chestnuts on the nose followed by flavors of fresh cranberries, sweet caramel and gingerbread. Chivas Regal Extra Smoky Cask Selection is rolling out exclusively in Turkey at an undisclosed price before launching worldwide sometime next year.

Previous releases in the Extra range have recruited sherry, bourbon, rye and tequila barrels for bespoke finishes on the brand’s blended scotch. This year’s Extra Smoky Cask Selection is the first not to boast a 13-year age statement. Bottles in the collection have typically cost between $30-$60 once they hit the U.S. market, so expect something in that ballpark if you’re seeking out the expression in the coming months.
