Bruichladdich Unveils Whisky Distilled From ‘One of Most Genetically Diverse’ Types of Barley

In October, Bruichladdich announced the release of its latest expression, Bere Barley 2013. The whisky’s mashbill is composed of “one of the most genetically diverse” barley grains, according to the brand.
The scotch whiskey was aged in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill wine casks from Pauillac and hosts a suggested retail price of $140. It can be purchased from specialized retailers.
Pauillac is one of the wine-growing communes situated on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. It is considered one of the most prestigious regions within the entire region.
Wine Folly claims the region is recognized for producing powerful, elegant and robust expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines from First Growth properties known to fetch eye-watering prices like Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Latour all have parcels of vines within the region.
According to the Scottish Food Guide, Bere Barley is an older varietal that is cited as having an “earthy, slightly astringent, nutty flavor.”
The brand touts it designed the whisky’s packaging with sustainability in mind, and that the expression is housed in recycled glass. In July, Bruichladdich unveiled sustainable packaging for The Classic Laddie and housed it in a bottle made of 60% recycled glass.
