The Spirits Business reported on Thursday that Bowmore and Aston Martin are joining forces to offer guests the opportunity to tour Islay in a custom-designed blue Aston Martin, fill their own bottles of scotch at the distillery and more. Tickets cost £800 ($1,005) a head.
Named “Captivating Islay,” the experience is the latest development within the distillery’s multi-year-spanning partnership with the luxury car brand.
The experience involves guests being chauffeured about the island in a custom Aston Martin DBX that is painted the signature blue color of the distillery and features copper detailing inside from Bowmore’s whisky stills. The vehicle has a map of Islay on the rear headrests inside, and guests will get to take in vistas of Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, the River Laggan and Bowmore Lade.
Individuals will get to visit the distillery and fill their own bottle of single malt from a cask dating back to 1998, using a device called a valinch. The guided tour of the distillery will take place after lunch at the Bridgend Hotel.
Bowmore and Aston Martin’s partnership has included many luxurious and highly sought-after release of a distinctive, one-off decanter as part of the brand’s ARC-52 collaboration. It sold for $277,861 at Sotheby’s in May 2023. The decanter was filled with a 52-year-old vintage whisky made by Suntory Global’s Master Blender Ron Welsh.
The bespoke decanter featured a Japanese metalworking technique called “Mokume-Gane,” in which metal is made to take on the appearance of wood grain.
Both brands released a whisky in November called the Bowmore Masters’ Selection Third Edition. The whisky was priced at a more affordable $400.
