Blended Scotch Brand Compass Box Reimagines Core Collection With Spicy and Pastry-Inspired Whiskies

Blended scotch brand Compass Box announced on Sept. 10 the introduction of two new expressions into its core portfolio: Nectarosity and Crimson Casks. Nectarosity hosts an ABV of 46% and a suggested retail price of $64.99. Crimson Casks, meanwhile, is bottled at 46% and has a suggested retail price of $74.99. These two whiskies will be joining Compass Box’s pre-existing core expressions, Orchard House and The Peat Monster.

“With this new Core Collection, we bring together the world of whisky at its most compelling, Director of Whiskymaking James Saxon said in a statement. “Nectarosity offers a riot of tasting notes, evoking the deliciousness and audacity of high-end patisseries, while Crimson Casks leads with sherry-influenced richness and an enticing, spicy finish. Combined with the fragrant, crisp flavors of Orchard House and the sweet smoke of the aromatic and complex Peat Monster, the range satisfies on every level.”

Perhaps Compass Box’s calling card is its Peat Monster expression, which we have reviewed here. With an ABV of 46% and a suggested retail price of $64.99, this smoky and peaty whisky is a blended malt whisky. The brand shared later iterations combine single malts “with a more aromatic and graceful style of smokiness with a rich creaminess.”

As for the brand’s Orchard House, the blended malt whisky lives up to its name with apple and pear notes.

Nectarosity Blended Scotch Whisky

For Nectarosity, Compass Box used charred virgin Missouri oak that were used initially used to age new make spirit for one year and then to age new make spirit for 6 to 8 years. In true Compass Box fashion, the brand was transparent about where its whiskies were sourced from: Girvan Distillery and Clynelish Distillery. Compass Box shared that the whisky possesses aromas of cinnamon, fudge, maple syrup and pastry notes. Truly a dessert-driven dram!

Crimson Casks Blended Scotch Whisky

Crimson Casks is a scotch that will appeal to all sherry and wine lovers, according to the brand. Compass Box worked with Jose y Miguel Martín in Jerez, Spain, to source Oloroso sherry casks. The resulting whisky is rich with a spicy finish and a distinctively vinous quality. The brand shared the distinctive label features the “King of Whiskies,” with a crown made of oak, showcasing the wood’s power of transforming whisky.
