Ardbeg announced on Tuesday the release of Ardbeg Spectacular, a circus-themed scotch whisky released with Ardbeg Day just around the corner. This whisky is the distillery’s first expression aged in port casks, which the brand claims yield “a spectacle of flavors.”

The Islay whisky brand’s latest release hosts an ABV of 46% and a suggested retail price of $129.99. At the distillery, the brand intends to celebrate Ardbeg Day on June 1 with a “Dark Circus” inspired by this distinctive whisky release. The Saturday celebration will feature the scotch brand’s interpretation of a circus with tastings, games and “peaty delights.”

“Ardbeg Spectacular is a high-flying spirit, very befitting of Ardbeg Day. Its years in bourbon and port casks create a spectacle of flavors, the like of which Ardbeggians have never tasted before,” Ardbeg Master Blender Gillian Macdonald said in a statement. “We invite fans to roll up and feast their palates on its peculiar notes of mint chocolate, incense, lavender and smoked nets, set off by a daring double act of salted caramel and tar. Like the finest performances in the circus ring, this is a whisky not to be missed.”

Ardbeg is no stranger to playing with its aging process. In October, the brand released Ardbeg Anamorphic, a scotch whisky that was aged in a cask that was scored and heavily charred. The mind behind this whisky was Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation.
