‘Aquaman’ Star Jason Momoa Teases Scotch Whisky Venture

In a recent interview with the Sunday Mail, “Game of Thrones” star and Meili Vodka founder Jason Momoa playfully hinted that he may have a single malt scotch whisky in the works.
In between quips about the historical appeal of Edinburgh and his preference in kilts, the Hawaiian-born actor made a point to single out Scotland as his next travel destination.
“I kind of feel like I need to visit Scotland and sample a few of the finest single malts,” Momoa remarked. “Purely for business interests only, of course… I have spent a lot of time in London, and I love the pub scene, and I hear in Scotland the pubs are just as good.”
Though a whisky venture wouldn’t exactly add up with Momoa’s “Minecraft” or “Dune” personas, it could be the perfect match for his long-running superhero stint. Unlike the Aquaman of the 1940s and ’50s, Momoa’s version of the character is portrayed as the grizzled, tattooed and mischievously smirking sort. In one particularly famous scene, the unusually hunky Aquaman downs an entire bottle of whisky in slow motion as The White Stripes “Icky Thump” blares in the background.
That bottle — a fictitious highland malt, double cask matured scotch labeled “McMurdie Castle” — recently sold at auction for $585.
Though it’s unclear whether Momoa’s whisky venture comment was made in jest, it’s hard to deny that the finer details add up neatly. Especially since the website for his vodka brand currently has a giant timer counting down to July 3. Underneath, the subtitle “We’re Coming For You. Join The Revolution.”
At the beginning of 2023, Momoa teamed up with fashion designer Blake Halvorson to launch Meili. Purportedly distilled using water sourced from a 300-million-year-old aquifer feeding into nearby natural springs, the Montana-based vodka is available just about everywhere spirits are sold at a suggested retail price of $25. The brand’s bottles are made using 100% recycled material repurposed from “vast mountains of broken, discarded glass.”
In a positive review, Tastings wrote that Meili has a sweet, grassy quality somewhere between a “very refined white rum or column-distilled blanco tequila.” See what critics have to say about the spirit here.
Keen-eyed fans may also remember that Momoa once created a limited-edition beer in partnership with Guinness. Dubbed “The Mano,” the unlikely partnership came to fruition back in 2016 when the actor was shooting “Game of Thrones” in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Mano was described as a sour (the first ever from the brand) and featured a label inspired by Momoa’s tattoos and Hawaiian heritage.
In light of Guinness’ explosive growth over the past few months, we can only imagine how much hype this beer would attract if it dropped in 2025.
