Woodford Reserve’s Highest-Proof Rye Whiskey Is Here

On Thursday, Woodford Reserve launched a new limited-edition whiskey: Barrel Strength Rye, bottled at 125.1 proof and made with what the distillery describes as a pre-Prohibition style mash bill.

The mashbill consists of 53% rye, the same used for Woodford Reserve Rye, but this release is bottled at barrel strength rather than the brand’s standard 90.4 proof.

“Barrel Strength Rye honors the legacy of America’s original rye whiskeys, where spice and tobacco take the lead, layered with notes of fruit, floral, and subtle sweetness,” Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall said. “But rather than presenting the standard 90.4 proof for which Woodford is known, this high-proof expression brings more pronounced spice notes.”

The release is priced at $129.99 for a 700ml bottle. It is available nationwide and at the Woodford Reserve Distillery. Shipping is offered through the brand’s online shop to Kentucky, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Nebraska and Washington, D.C.

Woodford Reserve is part of the Brown-Forman portfolio, which also includes Jack Daniel’s, Old Forester and Herradura.
