Wild Turkey announced on Wednesday the latest release in the brand’s renowned Master’s Keep Series. This year’s offering is inspired by a touching story as Father’s Day draws near. Wild Turkey Master’s Keep “Triumph” is a 10-year-old rye crafted by Master Distiller Eddie Russell after he found out his son, Associate Blender Bruce Russell, loved rye whiskey.
“The Master’s Keep series continues to be a display of our creativity and quality at Wild Turkey,” Master Distiller Eddie Russell said in a news release. “We’ve always seen the collection as a vehicle to tell stories that celebrate our heritage and who we are as a distillery. This particular release was inspired by Bruce’s fondness for rye and is a nod to his influence on my work. Triumph is a rye you’ll be proud to serve and is a testament to the tenacity of the spirit.”
Master Distiller Eddie Russell shared that Bruce was a fan of rye whiskey before it rose in popularity, and this particular rye is from a cask he laid down a decade ago. At the time, many distillers “pulled the spirit from shelves,” yet Wild Turkey believed rye whiskey would make a comeback. The brand continued making Wild Turkey 101 Rye, despite low demand. Ultimately, Russell claimed he chose the name “Triumph,” to honor the rye revival and Wild Turkey’s dedication to the spirit.
Triumph hosts a suggested retail price of $275 and clocks in at a proof of 104. The brand claims a limited amount of Triumph will be available within the U.S. for presale in early June. Those who want to purchase Triumph in person can do so at select retailers right before Father’s Day.
The brand claims the rye whiskey possesses sweet, honeyed clove aromas with dates, dark chocolate, spice and a black pepper finish interlaced with wisps of mocha. Wild Turkey lauded Triumph for its versatility and claims the whiskey can be enjoyed neat or in a cocktail. Wild Turkey released Master’s Keep Voyage in June, and the 10-year-old bourbon was finished in rum casks. The distinctive choice of finishing cask marked a first for the brand’s history and if you want to know what we thought of it you can read our review here. Releases from Wild Turkey’s Master’s Keep Series can vary wildly due to the experimental and polarizing nature of the line.
