WhistlePig and Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits announced on Friday that the Vermont craft whiskey brand and mega distributor inked a deal in the United States.
Under Southern’s distribution, WhistlePig will be available in the distributor’s 40 U.S. markets.
“We’ve built a brand that fans love and demand with the help of bartenders, early adopters, a young, fearless distillery team, and an appetite for risk,” WhistlePig CEO Jeff Kozak said in a news release. “We’ve experienced tremendous growth by delivering innovation beyond what the industry has seen while maintaining our independent, rural Vermont ethos. It’s an exciting time for WhistlePig, and our new agreement with Southern Glazer’s will help us continue to scale.”
According to the news release, Southern Glazer aims to consolidate WhistlePig’s distribution of its whiskeys, including some core expressions like PiggyBack 100% Rye, Small Batch Rye Aged 10 Years, Old World Rye Aged 12 Years and rare offerings like the Boss Hog Series.
Southern additionally claims to want to scale the growth of the brand efficiently.
“We’re excited to be forging this expanded relationship with WhistlePig Whiskey and to help them grow their incredible portfolio of craft brands,” Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Gene Sullivan said in a statement. “With our team’s national scale, deep industry insights and leading digital capabilities, I’m confident we will continue to build on WhistlePig Whiskey’s success in the marketplace.”
WhistlePig is a brand with humble beginnings at a 500-acre Vermont farm.
The brand was the brainchild of Raj Bhakta, and WhistlePig’s claim to fame arose from its bold and experimental rye whiskeys.
Though Bhakta parted ways with the company in 2016, according to the Burlington Free Press, WhistlePig continued to grow and the former founder and CEO has since stepped out and created his own brand.
WhistlePig continued to achieve more critical acclaim with its distinctive releases.
Its Boss Hog series hosts a collection of more experimental whiskeys, including a head-turning rye whiskey finished in Tentura casks made from a Greek liqueur created at the distillery.
The latest partnership with Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits marks a new chapter for the brand, as the company is unquestionably one of the biggest, “preeminent” liquor distribution companies in the United States.
