On Tuesday, Baltimore-based Sagamore Spirit announced the brand was bringing back its port barrel-finished rye whiskey. The popular whiskey was awarded a double gold, garnering it the title of “World’s Best Rye Whiskey” in 2019 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

“We’ve been eager to bring back our Port Finish Rye Whiskey to our fans coast to coast, and everything finally lined up the right way,” Ryan Norwood, vice president of operations at Sagamore Spirit, said in a news release from the brand. “We let this version rest even longer in Port casks, which made for a truly special experience, with notes of jammy fruit and indulgent baking spice. It’s the season’s perfect rye whiskey.”

The whiskey is bottled at 103 proof and hosts a suggested retail price of $99.99. It will be available for purchase at Sagamore’s distillery in Baltimore and specialized markets in the U.S.

Sagamore describes the rye whiskey as a “full-bodied party of juicy raspberries, cherries and plums dancing with rich caramel, dark chocolate and oaky vanilla, complemented by a long, satisfyingly spiced finish.”

Sagamore Spirit prides itself on being a “grain to glass,” distillery that focuses on building relationships with local Maryland farmers in cultivating the ingredients that go into its spirits. In August, the brand was named a proud partner of the Baltimore Ravens, and the partnership is set to run through March 2028.

The brand’s Port Finish Rye Whiskey marks the latest release both in its Reserve Series and since it was acquired by the Italian multinational conglomerate, Illva Saronno Holding S.p.A., in September.

Illva Saronno owns the Royal Oak Distillery, an Irish whiskey brand that operates out of an 18th-century Irish estate. Royal Oak’s calling card is its whiskey brand, The Busker.
