Penelope Bourbon announced on Wednesday that the brand is bringing back its Toasted Rye whiskey. Nine thousand cases will be made available by allocation. The whiskey is distilled from the classic MGP mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and is finished in new toasted barrels.

“After what we achieved with last year’s release, we are really excited for our second installment,” Penelope Bourbon founder Michael Paladini said in a news release. “Our first Toasted Rye scored 99 points at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and we’re confident this release will be equally well received.”

Penelope Toasted Rye Whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of $74.99.

“After aging rye whiskey for six years prior to finishing, this year’s release resulted in a profile that we believe will really stand out,” Penelope Bourbon founder and Master Blender Daniel Polise said. “The char 2 profile of the finishing barrels used brought out rich butterscotch notes to the blend of selected barrels, adding additional layers and depth to a great rye whiskey.”

Penelope’s previous release of its Toasted Rye whiskey secured a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

This release follows June’s Penelope Rosé Cask Finish release, which hit shelves just as summer’s heat began to set in. The 94-proof bourbon was finished in casks that previously held Grenache Rosé from the south of France.

Penelope Bourbon was acquired by the whiskey mega-producer, MGP, for an impressively high sum in May 2023. The brand sold for $105 million with a maximum potential buyout of $110.8 million if the brand met specific performance requirements.
