On Monday, two Kentucky companies, Bulleit Frontier Whiskey and West Sixth Brewing, announced their third collaboration on a barrel-aged beer, the Rye Barrel Porter.

Rye Barrel Porter is aged in Bulleit rye whiskey barrels and containing 9% ABV.

“After the success of our first two collaborations with Bulleit, we were excited to dive in for the third with something new,” Kelly Hieronymus, marketing and creative director, West Sixth Brewing, said in a news release. “Rye Barrel Porter and this partnership emphasizes West Sixth’s commitment to making new and innovative beers.”

Rye Barrel Porter is available as of Monday. It releases in select markets throughout Kentucky. It will be available on draft and to-go in the West Sixth taprooms in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort and Newport.

Bulleit and West Sixth first teamed up to launch Bourbon Barrel Brownie in 2021. They then worked together again in May 2022 to launch a vanilla variant of the same beer.

Bulleit, which is owned by spirits giant Diageo, recently came out on top in a legal trademark battle against Redemption Whiskey.

“We are thrilled to continue working with West Sixth as part of our Bulleit & Beer Program,” said Sophie Kelly, SVP of North American Whiskeys, Diageo. “Now in its third evolution, this partnership continues to pioneer Bulleit’s commitment to local collaborations that focus on positive environmental impact, and unique experiences for customers.”

Tasting notes for the beer, per West Sixth: “A showcase of incredibly complex malt character with notes of bread crust, coffee, chocolate, caramel, cherry, vanilla, spicy rye whiskey notes, and dried dark fruit”
