‘A Gift From Mt. Fuji’: This Japanese Distillery Celebrates 50 Years With Latest Release — and Just 100 Bottles are Available in the US

Fuji 30-Year-Old Single Grain Whiskey
On Monday, Fuji Whisky announced the release of a 30-year-old Single Grain Whisky in celebration of the distillery’s 50th anniversary. It is the second of a series of three releases and just 100 bottles are available for purchase in the U.S.
“We are so excited to release the next 100 bottles [of only 200 remaining bottles] of our special 30-year-old single grain to the U.S. in honor of Mt. Fuji Distillery’s 50th Anniversary,” Fuji Distillery Master Blender Jota Tanaka said in a news release. “At Fuji Whisky, we are always challenging ourselves and improving our craft, and this expression is truly a gift from Mt. Fuji.”
This expression blends a variety of Canadian-style grain whiskies, some of which have been aged for more than 40 years. The whisky was distilled in batches using what the brand refers to as the “kettle and column” still configuration before aging in 100% first- and second-fill American White Oak bourbon casks.
The 92-proof whisky is available for purchase with a suggested retail price of $3,000 and can be purchased in California, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Georgia, the District of Columbia, New York and Massachusetts.
Starting Spring 2024, the brand plans to release a limited-edition 50th Anniversary Japanese single malt. The brand claims the expression will include malt from 1973, the year Mt. Fuji Distillery was founded.
In May, the Fuji Whisky released a blended whisky that was aged for eight years in ex-bourbon casks. The Japanese Whisky was the first in a new category of Japanese whisky called the single blend — a blend of Japanese whiskies made at the same distillery.
Fuji Whisky is the closest distillery to Mt. Fuji and is separated from the mountain by a forest. The brand uses Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt in production, which it claims provides the whisky with terroir or “a sense of place.”
